Children will be finishing their Lego masterpieces, seniors will be decorating their walkers and bakers will be putting the final touches on their delicacies in preparation for the Mount Barker Agriculture Society Show.

In it's 146th year the event will be loudly and proudly on show at the Mount Barker Oval on Saturday, March 23.

President of the show Jocelyn Fry said this year's event has been aimed to include every age and demographic to draw the crowds.

“We're having a decorated walker competition that doesn't demand that people come to the show so it involves the whole community of seniors who can't get around as well as they simply need to send in a photograph of their decorated walker,” Jocelyn said.

“We have a whole lot of competitions and exhibitions for seniors including sections for people over 70, 80, 90 and 100 years of age!

“Children are also encouraged to enter with painting competitions, craft, Lego, poultry and vegetable growing sections specifically for juniors.”

There will also be live music from community choirs, bands, all the classic carnival favourites including the laughing clowns, bouncy castles, petting zoos, a climbing wall, scone bake-offs, food vans, market stalls, karate demonstrations and even Saint Johns First Aid demonstrations.

“There will be the Cyclone ride that will make everyone's tummy turn,” Jocelyn said.

With one of the biggest displays of the superior Charolais beef cattle as the feature event of the show Jocelyn said it's one of the only experiences some children will get to understand agricultural lifestyles and the concept of animal produce.

“For most children it will be their only chance to get up close to a Clydesdale horse, pat its nose and give it a carrot,” Jocelyn said.

Sam Edwards the region's secretary for the Charolais Society of Australia said it's the perfect opportunity for interested farmers to see the impressive breed up close.

“The best thing for people to do is come up and have a chat to our breeders because we'll be exhibiting the best of what we've bred in the last few seasons,” Sam said.

If the gentle giants aren't your draw-card then explore the rest of what the show has to offer from 9am with the official show opening followed by the annual celebrity goat-milking competition at 11am.

“We'll round up all the local politicians and anybody of note and they'll have a goat, a bucket and two minutes to get as much milk as they can,” Jocelyn said.

“We're expecting to have Rebekha Sharkie, Dan Cregan, Georgina Downer, a member from the Greens and local councillors from Mount Barker involved.

“It gives everyone a laugh when a goat puts it's foot in a bucket or milk is poured all over someone's shoes.”
